I’am and Auntie…

On the 30th of March my lovely baby niece Valerie was born. I have seen a little video and a picture, but at this point I don’t have a picture I am allowed to publish on here yet.

She is so gorgeous and it is so wonderful to have her with us. Her being born makes it even harder to be away, and unfortunately there is too much going on at work to let me leave the country. Yesterday my mother wrote to me saying that she is growing and changing every day and all I want to say is ‘Stop growing and changing until I am there Valerie!!!’

For the last couple of months living in Ecuador I have been missing my family more than ever before. I have lived abroad for more than 8 years now, but living in Europe or even the Middle East never felt far away. Now I do feel far away, and in addition to that something extra special and interesting is going on over there, which I do not feel part of (enough).

My close friend and work colleague here, Luz, is also pregnant now. I was thrilled to be able to watch her pregnancy a little, because I was not there for my sister’s. Another work colleague of ours, Christina, just found out she is pregnant and I hear from more and more close friends about pregnancies closer to home.

As I have always known that I want children one day, this has made me think about it of course. But strangely I feel farther away from that reality than ever. Part of it is being far away from home and another part is financial of course. I do not feel in the least financially stable enough to have a child. Also, being in a lesbian relationship does require more planning, and tackling that problem seems a little too complex for now as well.

Love

Chiara
