Video, Ruth Watson Lubic, 2011-2014, Second TdF Interview

We have the great pleasure to welcome Dr. Ruth Watson Lubic on our platform again. Ruth is one of the earliest natural outstanding woman of ‘Tonalités de Femmes’, and has been our ‘godmother’ since we met. At 86 years of age, she has been fighting for quality maternity care for disadvantaged women for over 4 decades! Rap songs have been written about her, and for us she was our first inspiration to launch our ‘Illuminating a Woman from the Heart’ campaign.

  • LANGUAGE : English
  • NAME : Ruth Watson Lubic
  • CITY : Washington
  • Who Is Ruth?
  • Ruth can best be described as a ‘living legend’ and is a pioneer in maternity health care in the US. Her loving and empowering care centre approach to midwifery in impoverished neighbourhoods is gaining recognition internationally, and she is able to draw from over 40 years of experience in the field. Peer education is a key element in her work, and Ruth understands that sharing insight and experiences is both effective and empowering.
  • Why is she an inspiration?
  • It would be easier to ask, ‘why is Ruth not an inspiration?’ She has helped a tremendous amount of people, and like with all good teachers, the positive impact her life will continue to have cannot be measured. Through such a long and intense career Ruth has also learned a lot, which she is happy to share. For example, that normal pregnancies and healthy births do not have to depend on income or race, and that the power of word of mouth is better than any advertisement campaign.
  • Which subjects are you going to tackle?
  • Even on her holiday in London with her husband Ruth is busy advocating her cause and since our last interview 3 years ago, a lot of things have happened in her life. She talks to us about some major achievements and insights, and her passion for educating about early childhood development.
